I recently read an article titled "Sorry, Emma Watson, But HeForShe is Rotten For Men." I had been avoiding this article since I saw it because I knew it'd make me angry. But I finally couldn't help myself, and now I'm angry. Seething, actually.

The article explains what Emma Watson said in her speech about feminism and how it's a man's fight, too. Which is true. Toxic masculinity is a byproduct of sexism, and feminism is here to lessen that. Feminism gives this idea that femininity isn't something to be ashamed of or fear. Saying "you throw like a girl" will no longer be an insult that men say to other men, or god forbid women saying it to men. But that's not the point. This article says that feminism and HeForShe are "contributing to sexism against men" and that feminism is about bashing men. Which it is not. I think that idea comes from the name itself, "Feminism" is inherently feminine, and therefore people assume it's about female superiority. But I'll be damned if we change it to appease a man.

I am so disgusted with this article, which was written by a woman, because it is so wrong. I am so disappointed that TIME Magazine would publish such an incorrect piece of writing. Men are so scared of losing their powerful hold on women that they'll demonize women and feminism on zero hard evidence. I have witnessed sexism firsthand, and it is disgusting. I have been followed around by a man that does not respond when I shut his flirtations down, and thinks I owe him something because I didn't respond to his text within the hour.

Another instance in which I have been exposed to blatant sexism is, you guessed, in school! Again. I was sitting in my Civil War class and we were talking about women's suffrage. I brought up Taylor Swift when we were asked, "Can you give a real life example of sexism?" Once I brought her up, every man in the room said, "She's a whore." Imagine that.

The point to me bringing these things up is to bring attention to the atrocities that men and sexism contribute to society. This article is so horribly wrong that it's not funny. It's disgusting.
